£20 million boost for Lower Swansea Valley (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£20 million has been awarded to Swansea Council to help preserve Swansea's industrial history.

The Levelling Up funding will help regenerate the River Tawe area. The package of projects will enhance Swansea’s reputation as a heritage destination and celebrate its vibrant industrial history.

Hafod-Morfa Copperworks

Heritage features at the Hafod-Morfa Copperworks site will be restored. Funding will also support:

  • regeneration and preservation of listed buildings, releasing them for business use and further investment
  • increased connectivity for local communities and visitors

The River Tawe

Links between the Copperworks site and the River Tawe will also be improved, with:

  • better access to public transport by bus, rail and river by re-using Victorian era railway arches
  • better lighting along The Strand’s tunnels
  • new retail pods

Swansea Museum

Swansea Museum will be upgraded and enhanced with:

  • new exhibition, gallery and learning spaces
  • improved access for visitors
  • a new café
