By 2020 every home and business in Britain will have been offered a smart meter, putting them in control of their energy use by helping them to save money. The roll out will save Britain £5.7 billion by modernising our energy system and helping customers avoid wasting energy and money.
Research has shown that consumers can benefit greatly if they are given tailored energy efficiency advice during the smart meter installation visit, so the Government commissioned a pilot to understand how this could be best delivered. 400 homes and two energy suppliers took part in the pilot which resulted in:
- a toolkit guide to help energy suppliers develop training and guidance for their installers
- ten factsheets covering a range of energy advice that installers can pick from to match customers’ circumstances
- Two research reports outlining the findings from the pilot study and an initial small-scale evidence review
