Mark Rawlinson

Biography

Mark Rawlinson joined the Ministry of Justice as a Lead Non-Executive Board Member on 4 June 2018. His term of office following reappointment concludes on 3 March 2025.

Mark has over 30 years of commercial experience as an adviser - since 2016 as Chairman of UK Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley (retiring at the end of November 2021) and prior to that as corporate partner for 25 years at international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where he was regarded as one of the leading M&A lawyers worldwide, as well as holding senior management positions.

Mark was also appointed as an independent member of the Sporting Commission at Premiership Rugby in June 2023.

Lead non-executive board member

Our Lead Non-executive is a senior figure from outside the department who brings expertise and skills from outside of the department. They:

  • support the Secretary of State in their role as Chair of the Board
  • give guidance and advice to MOJ leaders and ministers
  • support and challenge management on the department’s strategic direction
  • provide support in monitoring and reviewing progress
