Arabel Bailey

Biography

Arabel joined the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as a Non-Executive in September 2021, and was appointed as the permanent chair of the Transformation Advisory Committee there in February 2024. This committee provides expertise, insight and advice around transforming the Department’s services utilising digital technologies.  

Arabel brings over 30 years’ experience of technology-driven transformation, across a wide range of industries. She is an experienced business leader and has held senior executive positions driving growth in the areas of Technology, Digital Transformation and Innovation. Alongside her DWP role, she is also a Non-Executive Director at the University Hospitals of Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. Arabel has long been a champion for Diversity and Inclusion, and for the need to bring a better gender balance to the Technology industry. She is recognised as a role model in this area and has received industry recognition for her leadership roles. She has a degree in Maths and Management Science from the University of Manchester and worked for Accenture in the UK for 29 years.

Our non-executive directors are senior figures from outside the department who bring a diverse mix of expertise and skills from across the public and private sector. They all:

  • give guidance and advice to DWP leaders and ministers
  • support and challenge management on the department’s strategic direction
  • provide support in monitoring and reviewing progress
