Press briefing: morning 25 November 2013
The Prime Minister’s Spokesperson (PMS) answered questions on welfare for immigrants, the Attorney General, Scotland, pay day loans and RBS.
Welfare for immigrants
Asked for the Prime Minister’s (PM’s) view about welfare arrangements for immigrants, the PMS said that net migration had fallen by a third and there were transitional arrangements in place for immigrants from Bulgaria and Romania. The Immigration Bill was taking measures to deal with abuse. The government was always looking at what more could be done.
Attorney General
Asked whether the PM agreed with comments the Attorney General had made about Pakistani corruption, the PMS said the Attorney General had already made a subsequent statement on the matter.
Scotland
Asked about the campaign leading up to the Scottish independence referendum, the PMS said the government would continue to make the case for the United Kingdom.
Pay day loans
Asked about the proposed cap on pay day loans, the PMS said the Chancellor had set the government position out clearly. The government had created a powerful new consumer regulator and the additional steps announced on caps was the right thing to do.
RBS
Asked about the Tomlinson report into RBS business lending, the PMS said the PM shared the Chancellor’s view set out that morning.
