Pulse oximetry in newborn physical screening
Read the full outcome
Detail of outcome
The evidence on the use of pulse oximetry as an additional test into the newborn and infant physical examination screening programme remains unclear on what the benefits and harms were for non-cardiac conditions when pulse oximetry is used.
Given the public and clinical interest in this area and the committee’s investment, the UK NSC supported the call for further research to be undertaken to explore the uncertainties before it makes a final recommendation on this.
