£18 million for seafront and town centre improvements in Cleethorpes (Levelling Up Fund 2)

Over £18 million from the Levelling Up Fund was awarded to North East Lincolnshire Council to revitalise Cleethorpes seafront and town centre.

The funding will be spent on three schemes that will transform Cleethorpes into a year-round destination.

Rejuvenating Cleethorpes Market Square

This existing car park will be removed and replaced with a functioning marketplace. The new Market Square will reconnect the busy seafront with the town centre, with:

  • 800sqm additional retail space
  • up to 40 new jobs
  • a safer, more pleasant environment for pedestrians

Extra parking will also be created nearby at Grant Street.

Sea Road

Levelling Up funding will support the construction of a new landmark building opposite Cleethorpes pier for visitors to enjoy and help extend the tourist season.

Regeneration of Cleethorpes Pier Gardens

The Victorian linear park will be renovated and aim to bring in around £18.7m of economic benefits.

Improvements to the Linear Park include:

  • an outdoor leisure space
  • a series of outdoors rooms to be used for a variety of recreational activities
  • more plants and wildlife to increase biodiversity in the area
