Case study

£14.3 million allocated to Waltham Cross (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£14.3 million has been allocated to support the renaissance of Waltham Cross. The Levelling Up funding will support 3 related projects.

Restore civic pride

Improvements to the public realm within Waltham Cross Town Centre will transform the heart of the town and will:

  • improve pedestrian and cycle access
  • create a modern look and feel to the town centre
  • boost trade for existing shops and businesses, providing a more attractive and vibrant environment for new businesses to set up,
  • establish a ‘Living Wall’ to create new green areas and help to improve air quality

Enhance life chances

A new Community Skills Hub will provide training on digital skills to local people. This will:

  • provide an accessible, multifunctional space with a new IT suite
  • support unemployed people into employment
  • increase training opportunities in digital and numerical skills

Health and wellbeing

The improvements to Waltham Cross playing fields will encourage positive use of leisure time, improve the health and well-being of the local community and reduce anti-social behaviour. Improvements include:

  • the refurbishment of a dilapidated sports pavilion
  • a new and improved skatepark
  • new play and exercise equipment
  • a walking and jogging track
  • DJ booths
  • an improved football pitch

Lewis Cocking, Leader of Broxbourne said:
