Brain aneurysm and driving

You may need to tell DVLA if you have a brain aneurysm.

You can be fined up to £1,000 if you don’t tell DVLA about a medical condition that affects your driving. You may be prosecuted if you’re involved in an accident as a result.

Car or motorcycle licence

If your aneurysm has not bled, you do not need to tell DVLA unless your doctor tells you to or you cannot drive safely.

If your brain aneurysm has bled

If your brain aneurysm has bled and you’ve had surgery (including endovascular), you do not need to tell DVLA unless your doctor tells you to or you cannot drive safely.

If you’ve not had surgery, you must tell DVLA about your aneurysm. Fill in form B1 and send it to the address on the form.

Bus, coach or lorry licence

If your brain aneurysm has not bled and has been treated with endovascular surgery, you do not need to tell DVLA.

In all other cases, you must tell DVLA.
