Michael Hanton

Biography

Michael is the Deputy Chief Regulator having initially joined Ofqual in 2013.

His previous roles include:

  • Executive Director, Strategy
  • Director, Strategy & Markets, Ofqual
  • Associate Director, Strategic Policy & Risk, Ofqual

Prior to joining Ofqual, Michael worked in local government, for Coventry City Council.  He is a Director at the Institute of Regulation.

Deputy Chief Regulator, Ofqual

The deputy chief regulator is accountable for:

  • leadership of Ofqual’s regulation across general, vocational and technical qualifications, to ensure that Ofqual is effective in regulating on behalf of students and apprentices
  • effective use of Ofqual’s rule-making powers, regulatory tools and enforcement powers
